Pre-Flight Setup

Before your first flight, you'll need to download and install some essential software.

Step 1: Download Flight Tracker Software

We use vmsACARS to automatically track your flights. This software is compatible with X-Plane, Prepar3D, Microsoft FSX, and MSFS.

Required Connectors

For X-Plane: You need XPUIPC (Universal Inter-Process Communication)

For MSFS/FSX/P3D: You need FSUIPC

UIPC allows the flight tracker to read data from your flight simulator.

Step 2: Install Liveries (Optional but Recommended)

Liveries are optional but highly recommended as they greatly improve immersion. All NGS liveries are available on our Flightsim.to profile.

Available Liveries: Fenix A320/A319, FBW A320NX, PMDG 737/777, Aerosoft CRJ 700, FSS E175, and more!
Browse Our Liveries on Flightsim.to
Installation Instructions:
  1. Extract the downloaded folder
  2. Verify it contains: SimObjects/, manifest.json, layout.json
  3. Place the folder into your MSFS community folder

For PMDG Aircraft:

  1. In the Operations Center, click Aircraft > Liveries > Livery Utilities
  2. Click Install from PTP file (bottom left)
  3. Navigate to your downloaded file and let it process

Using SimBrief for Flight Planning

SimBrief integration is built directly into NGS Virtual's flight dispatch system.

Integration: When you book a flight and navigate to the dispatch page, you can click "Dispatch via SimBrief" to automatically pre-fill your flight details.

Step-by-Step SimBrief Guide:

1. Departure Time & Format
  • Off Block Time: Set your scheduled pushback time (Zulu/UTC)
  • OFP Format: We recommend "LIDO" for beginners
  • Use the refresh icon to set time to current + 35 minutes
2. Flight Information
  • Flight Number: Enter 0-9999 (your choice)
  • Origin: Departure airport ICAO code (e.g., KJFK)
  • Destination: Arrival airport ICAO code (e.g., KLAX)
  • Alternate: Optional - SimBrief will auto-select if left empty
3. Aircraft Selection
  • Enter the ICAO type designator for your aircraft (e.g., A320, B738)
  • Find type designators on our Fleet page
  • Registration format: N + 1-5 alphanumeric characters
  • Select an airframe for accurate performance data
4. Payload
  • Passengers: Number of passengers (optional - auto-calculated if omitted)
  • Cargo: Weight in thousands of pounds (e.g., 3.47 = 3,470 lbs)
  • Reserve Fuel: AUTO mode plans 45 min for props, 30 min for jets
5. Navigation

SimBrief automatically finds the best route, runways, and altitude. You can override if needed:

  • Route: Waypoints, STARs, SIDs, Airways
  • Cruise FL: Flight level (e.g., 340 = 34,000 ft)
Final Step: Verify all data, then click "Dispatch Flight" in the top left!

Flight Tracking with vmsACARS

To track your flight and automatically submit your PIREP (Pilot Report), you need to run vmsACARS alongside your simulator.

Starting Your Flight:

  1. Launch vmsACARS

    Allow administrator permissions when prompted

  2. Login with your credentials:
    • Pilot ID: Your NGS pilot ID (e.g., NGS102) - found on your profile
    • Email: Same as your NGS Virtual account
    • Password: Same as your NGS Virtual account
  3. Verify Flight Plan Data

If you used SimBrief dispatch, all fields will auto-populate

  4. Load into your simulator
    • Spawn at your departure airport
    • Use the filed aircraft
    • Start fueling to the required amount
  5. Important: Wait until fueling is 100% complete before starting your flight in ACARS!
  6. Click "Start Flight" in vmsACARS

You'll see confirmation messages like "Flight to XXXX has now been started"

  7. Fly to your destination!

ACARS will track all phases: boarding, taxi, takeoff, cruise, landing, shutdown

Completing Your Flight:

  1. Land at your destination airport
  2. Taxi to gate or parking
  3. Shutdown engines
  4. Click "End Flight" in vmsACARS
Congratulations! Your first flight is complete! Your PIREP will be automatically submitted and appear on your pilot profile. 🥳🎉
